4 Things You Should Tell Yourself Every Morning When You Wake Up

Every single day that you enjoy on this earth is an opportunity—an opportunity to make a difference, an opportunity to make your mark, an opportunity to live your dreams, and an opportunity to feel happy.

So every morning when you wake up, it’s on you to jump out of bed, look yourself in the mirror, and tell yourself what you need to hear to feel motivated to take advantage of this God-given opportunity to live.

If you’re looking to make the most of your life—and I think if you’re reading this blog post, you definitely are—the following are 4 affirmations You Should Tell Yourself Every Morning When You Wake Up:

#1- “I Am Not My Past. I Am Not What Others Think Of Me. I Am Who Say I Am.”

Who are you?

If someone asked you that question right now, what would your response be?

Typically, we tend to answer that question by explaining who’ve were in the past:

Personality types we identified with, passions and hobbies we had, people we associated with, jobs we worked, experiences we went through, and accomplishments we made.

When it comes to explaining who we are, we tend to define ourselves by the past.

We define ourselves by past experiences, habits, tendencies, passions, hobbies, and jobs. And we identify with the labels that others have given us throughout our lives.

When someone puts a positive or a negative label on us—when someone tells us that we’re smart, stupid, beautiful, ugly, fat, intelligent, lazy, crazy, loud, quiet, or unattractive—those comments leave a mark on us. If someone says that we’re talkative, we start to talk more often. If someone tells us that we’re quiet, we tend to keep quiet more often. If someone tells us that we’re lazy, we start to lose our motivation. If someone says that we’ve got great work ethic, we begin to put more effort into our work.

The labels that others put on us end up defining who we become.

Sooner or later, the labels people have marked us with throughout the course of our lives become our identity. We create this identity for ourselves based on those past labels.

But the truth of the matter is, who you are is entirely up to you. You are not your past. You are not your occupation. You are not the friends that you’ve associated with. You are not those decisions you made in the past. You are not the labels that others have defined you with. You are one hundred percent your own person.

The decisions you’re going to make, the actions you’re going to take, and the person you are going to be today is entirely up to you.

The past is irrelevant. The negative labels you’ve identified with up until this point are irrelevant.

Today is yours.

So when you wake each morning and prep yourself for the day, it’s important that you take a look in the mirror and embrace that mantra of disowning mistakes you’ve made, problems you have had, and negative labels you’ve associated with in the past. And embrace right now.

Embrace this opportunity to make today yours by saying this affirmation to yourself:

“I Am Not My Past. I Am Not What Others Think Of Me. I Am Who Say I Am.”

#2- “Today I Will Give Everything I Have To Making My Goals Reality”

Success happens in steps and phases.

With the number of times that the phrase “overnight success” gets thrown around, it’s easy to forget this important fact.

No matter how “overnight” someone’s accomplishment might seem, success never happens all at once. Success only takes place through thousands of hours of slow and steady progress towards completing the vision.

In order to get to the point where you’re making an impact on the lives of millions of fans; bringing home accolades and awards for your achievement; and being respected, admired, and recognized for your work, you first have to battle through ten thousand hours of slow and steady progress towards that vision.

In order to elevate your life to that level, you have to give everything that you have every single day to making progress on that dream—even though you might not be seeing any results yet.

So each day that you wake up, remind yourself to go all in for your goals.

Say this to yourself in the mirror:

“Today I Will Give Everything I Have To Making My Goals Reality”

#3- “Today I Will Be Happy.”

No one can make you happy but you.

So naturally, the only person you should depend on for your happiness is you.

No one else out there—not your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your parents, your friends, your colleagues, nor your authority figures—will ever truly understand what it takes for you to feel true happiness. Only you will ever have that full knowledge of what it takes for you to truly feel happy.

No one can make you happy but you.

If you’re feeling depressed, sad, or miserable, a knight in shining armor is not suddenly going to ride in to make you feel good. Only you can do that. You have to be your own knight in in shining armor—your own hero.

In order to feel true happiness consistently, you need to step up, go out there, figure out what makes you happy, and do it. It’s that simple.

In my opinion, happiness is even more important than success. All we’re ever looking for from life is happiness.

So each morning when you wake up, embrace that mantra of doing whatever you need to do—without hurting others—to feel true happiness.

Say this affirmation to yourself in the mirror: “Today I Will Be Happy.”

#4- “I Promise To Appreciate, Enjoy, And Live Out This Day As If It Is My Last”

Our days are numbered.

Every day that passes by, millions of human beings are born into existence. And millions pass away.

We have a limited number of days to walk this earth, breathe this air, interact with others, and make our mark on this world.

Like the title of one of my favorite motivational tracks (by Fearless Motivation) says, One Day It Will Be Over. You have a birthdate and a date somewhere off in your future when your time on earth will be over. There’s a dash in between those two dates.

What experiences, accomplishments, and contributions do you want to include in your dash that you haven’t done yet? What items on your bucket-list are still unchecked?

If you want to have any chance of making it to the end of your life without feeling any regrets, you need to appreciate every single day that you wake up as if it’s your last.

Make the most of it. Accomplish stuff today that you’re elderly self will thank you for.

Say this to yourself every morning: “I Promise To Appreciate, Enjoy, And Live Out This Day As If It Is My Last”
